More beverages at K2UV

It's that time of the year! We headed back to Warren K2UV to instal a 80m vertical with 2 elevated radials and two beverages along each leg of the property line, one faces N/S and the other E/W, these are not terminated to give bidirectional patterns. One bev is 360' and the other is 480'.

720' Beverage at K3FGO

There is only 1 word to describe this antenna.. WOW! We used Array Solutions single Wire Beverage System with 720' of #12 THHN and 1000' of RG6. This is pointed at 55 deg. Want to hear how it sounds? Scroll down...

Here is the feed point.

Here is the termination point.

Here is a video we took comparing it to the TX antenna (INV L).

Mosely Pro67C3s WB2ZKX

We finished up the Pro67 around 4:30pm and headed into Bill's shack to give it a listen. The 20m band was filled with +20 over JA and 9M6 DX! The tower shot is looking at his JA shot.

Return visit to K1XV

Nice to head back north to the beautiful state of Vermont and visit Ray K1XV. We installed a 160M Inverted L, 30m vertical dipole and did some coax replacement on the tower. The weather was a perfect 65 degrees. Congrats to Ray for making the Honor roll!

160M Inv L Sat Ant repair - N2IEN

Pat wanted something a little better on Topband then the 43' vertical. We installed a Inv L using the big tree you see in the background with 2 elevated radials running along his property line. It was just at sunset when we finished and could already hear some EU on it :)

Antenna/Tower maintenance @ K2WS

Good WX and a good time! Alan K2WS asked us to take care of some needed antenna maintenance. We fixed a broken 2m/440 vertical, ran new coax runs, re-aligned his rotor, replaced a limit switch and installed a 40m Inv V from the tower. Would ran out of daylight to get a 160M Inv L up :( We will be back!

160M INV L and 6M loops K2UV

Took care of some low band antenna work and installed a pair of 6M loops for Warren inRockland County. Warren had a very impressive key collection!

Rotor Repair at W1QK

Always a pleasure to do work for close neighbors, Dan is only about 20 miles away. This was a nice easy rotor repair and thanks to Dan for being fully prepared!

W2CEA - Getting the 2 element Steppir up in the air!

Yes, busy weekend for the HVT crew! 3 jobs in 2 days.

From Cobelskill NY we headed north to Herkimer and helped Gary W2CEA get his new 2 element SteppIR raised on his mast.
Once we had it raised we securely guyed the mast in 2 places. After we finished the install we tested the antenna on 20m and was overly impressed by the Front to Back rejection with only 2 elements spaced only 6 feet apart!

Rotor(s) replacement at WB2KLD

After we left AB3CX's QTH we headed South East and hour to WB2KLD's QTH to replace 2 rotators. Tom has an impressive 3 towers on his property!

Installation of 40M rotatable Dipole at AB3CX

You can see the T8 easily and just above it is the newly installed Cushcraft 40M rotary dipole, Mike says 3-6 sunits over his hygain tower in the back lawn! 40 is the new 20!

Here is a shot of all of us in front of Mike's impressive antique radio collection!

3 Element 40M beam repair at W2RE

After a damaging ice storm last winter, Ray wanted to get the bent reflector on the M2 3 ele 40M yagi fixed before contest season starts. As you can see he twisted the boom on the bottom 20M monobander so we could easily tram the beam down. Once all the prep work was finished, the beam was dropped, repaired and back into operation within a few hours.

Vertical and Sat Antennas N2IEN

Pat wanted to get a better signal on the low bands so we installed his DXE 43' self supporting vertical. DXE makes a nicely desinged vertical and initial reports show it's performing well.

Here is Ray W2RE with the finished 2M/440 dual band yagi with the AZ/EL Yeasu rotator installed and working!

WB2ZEX complete!

Another fun install, at first we were a little unsure since most of the equipment was used but in the end everything went pretty smooth and worked very well.

We showed up there was a hole and a tower laying in the back. The only bands Jerry was on was 2/220/440.

When we left he had 40,20,15,10,6,2,440.

WW2DX Install

Well it's official, we have the same level of excitement when we do our own personal installs as we do when doing customer installs. Here are some pics of Ray and I putting up 70' Rohn 45 at my QTH.
More to follow this weekend when we finish it up! It's going to make an interesting contest season :)

OK here is the project about 98% complete.

40-2CD @ 85'

W2VK Complete!

This was the first Hex beam that we had installed and to be honest we were a little skeptical even though we have only heard good reports from people who own them. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by it's performance! Not only did it perform very well, but front to back and flat SWR across ALL bands was very impressive. Today we installed the 40' tubular crankup tower, a 5 element 6M beam and the Hex beam, ran all new control cables and coax back to the shack. Here is the a pic of the finished product. Also, ever wanted to see how well a hex beam compares with a GAP vertical? Check out the video below!
Here are some more pics.

WB2ZEX and W3JJ

Busy day today! First thing this AM we headed to Jerry WB2ZEX QTH to form out the base for his Tri-EX LM-354HD.

After getting the box framed we headed over to Ken, W3JJ's to do some maintenance on his 72' Crankup. I have to hand it to Ken, he is very thorough on keeping his equipment up to date and well maintained. We try to stress to customers that this is very good practice! Towers installations are not cheap and the small cost of keeping bearings, cables and motors services will only extend your investments life.

X7 Installed

After getting the right parts and WX that cooperates the X7 is up and another happy customer!

Getting ready for the pour

We left W2MV after Cushcraft packed the wrong parts and headed to W2VK's on the way home to prep the base for concrete. We scheduled the concrete truck for this Thursday. Looking pretty good!

Replace A3S with X7 (almost)

I say almost because we were making great time today, got the 20 year old A3S down off the tower in an hour then quickly got to work on building the Cushcraft X7 beam. We got the boom assembly together, all the elements built and moved to the roof for element to boom assembly. This is where it stopped, Cushcraft switched the 4-1" ubolt and rubber grommet assemblies with 1-3/8" versions. We could not fabricate anything because of the specialized nature of the antenna. Alan W2MV will call Cushcraft in the AM and have them overnight the correct parts. Truly bummed us out as we never had to leave a job before from wrong parts, probably won't be the last time either. Nevertheless, we will have the right parts to finish up on Wednesday.

** UPDATE: After contacting Cushcraft, they mentioned that this is not uncommon for the X7, apparently they produce these models in large quantity and whoever puts the parts together made this mistake a few times, so if you are going to do a X7 be sure to check the inventory first!!
